How To Make An Orion

Page 2 - Colorization

We can do this one of two ways. The first way is to just go ahead and colorize the image the shad of green you want. The problem with that is that you may not be able to get a particular shade of green that is visually appealing to you. The second way is to remove all the color from the image and then color it the green shade you want. The advantage of this is that after you decolorize (Photoshop) you can save the image for later use - like when we make our Andorian, or Klingon. I prefer to remove the color, first.

02a. - Click on Adjust>Hue and Saturation>Colorize

01b. - Once you click on Colorize the Colorize dialog box will appear. If you click on the down arrow button (the one with the upside-down triangle with the underline) in the Hue section you'll be presented with a sort of rainbow. Moving the little slider from left to right will change the image in the right box to that particular shade of color. By clicking on the down arrow in the Saturation section you'll get a slider. This slider will allow you to select how saturated you want the image to be with the color you selected in the Hue section. You'll noticed the slider, in the Saturation section is all the way to the left and the image in the right box is grey. Click ok and the entire image will lose all its color. It'll be essentially grayscaled.

01c. - Once you have a decolorized image save it. File>Save As>select a directory or folder, type in a name, then click Save. Make sure you save it as a JPEG file. I named this image Angelina_jolie_gqGREY.jpg. If you get the dialog that talks about saving the image to this format will reduce the limitation blah, blah, blah. Click OK. Don't worry about it. It means nothing to us newbies.
