How To Make A Vulcan

Page 3 - Smudging the Ear

This step is very important. It's what defines a Vulcan as Vulcan. I'm going to show you how to "build" or Smudge the Ear into shape. As an Alternate method, you can hunt down a good photo of Spock and copy and paste his ears into your image. You can get some really good photomanips using this method. It's quick and efficient. - Alternate method brought to you from Richard. Another Alternate method is to use the Warp Tool. Click on the down arrow next to the Paint Brush tool and select Warp Brush. Then adjust and use different sizes of warp brushes for the outer edges and center of the Ear. - Alternate method brought to you from Marka. You can also get impressive results with this method. Experiment.

03a. This method requires patience and a fairly steady hand. As you can see, I used the smudge tool (the hand with the finger pointing toward the ground - Click on the item below the Clone tool (two little people facing each other). If you don't see the Hand click on the down arrow next to it and select the hand.). I started at the outer ridge of the ear. Then I held the left mouse button down and dragged the smear in a slight curve to a spot above the ear. I repeated the process for the top of the ear. If you make a mistake just Undo (ALT and tap once on the Backspace key).

03b. - Repeat the smudge method for the inside of the ear. Practice, practice, practice.

03c. - Next, select the Lasso tool (Same item as the rectangle but the Lasso looking one) and outline the area you smudged into shape.

03d. - Now we need to add noise. Click on Adjust>Add/Remove Noise>Add Noise. I finally settled on 5%, Gaussian, and Monochrome checked.

03e - Now, copy the new Ear and click on the main photo. Then click Edit>Paste>Paste Into Selection. The new Ear will appear.

03f - The new Ear. We can move on to the eyebrows.
